Samuel Lockhart Holt (1805-1872) of Orange County, NC, was the son of William (1780-1846) and Sarah Steele (1787-1843) Holt. He entered the University in 1821, joined the Dialectic Society, and received his BA from in 1825 and an MA in 1829. In 1848 he earned his MD from the University of Pennsylvania’s Medical Department and became a physician in Orange County, NC.
